As we age, our body naturally creates less collagen, the skin component responsible for strength and elasticity. The decrease in collagen leads to the appearance of folds, wrinkles, and hollowness on our faces. To counter that, a customized cosmetic treatment plan can be developed for you, which might include BOTOX® or other longer lasting fillers and injectibles like Sculptra® or Radiesse®.
Sculptra® is a popular option for restoring a more youthful look to the face using dermal fillers, and is a collagen regeneration product. It is an FDA approved soft tissue filler that stimulates your skin’s fibroblasts to produce new collagen, thereby reversing the loss of the skin’s fullness. It is used to fill and recontour areas where underlying supportive collagen and fat tissue have diminished with age or have been damaged by injury or disease. Sculptra® is most often used to cheek hollows, smile lines, and depressions around the eyes. It is also used to restore fullness to the hands for a natural, younger appearance.
Dr. Skotnicki is an advanced injector trainer and has been called upon to teach our other dermatologist the proper technique for administering long lasting fillers such as Sculptra®.
Your Sculptra® Treatment
Sculptra® treatments consist of a simple series of injections into the deeper layers of skin. Each treatment takes only minutes to perform, and is usually done in a series of usually three sessions. Side effects include short term bruising, redness, soreness, and slight swelling. There is very little downtime.
The results of Sculptra® injections are not immediate. However, the effects of the treatments are enduring and will continue to improve. Skin thickness can increase over the course of several weeks, and may require a second or third treatment to touch up the area. Unlike other absorbable injectables that last only a few months, the benefits of Sculptra® can last up to three years.
