About KYBELLA®
KYBELLA® is an injectable medication with the active ingredient deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid, also known as deoxycholate and cholanoic acid, is a metabolic byproduct of intestinal bacteria that assists in the absorption and breakdown of dietary fat. When injected into fat deposits below the chin, the active ingredient in KYBELLA® serves to destroy existing fat cells over the course of the treatment period. Ideal results may take up to six treatments, but once completed, destroyed cells will no longer be able to accumulate fat.
Since the active ingredient in KYBELLA® occurs naturally in the human body, severe reactions to this nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatment are uncommon. However, there are some risks such as swelling, bruising, and hardness that may accompany any injectable medication. It is not known if Kybella® passes into the breast milk of breastfeeding mothers.
