Laser hair reduction is a safe and effective method of hair removal that rapidly treats multiple hairs at the same time. Many lasers do not have enough power to successfully destroy hair follicles. The Sciton BBL laser system delivers an intense pulse of energy to ensure maximum effectiveness. This energy generates intense heat that damages or destroys the hair shaft and follicle, while sparing the surrounding skin. The hand piece also gently cools the skin to provide an added measure of safety and protection. The result is either complete removal or replacement with fine, lighter-coloured hair.

The vast majority of patients treated have no side effects except slight redness and swelling in the treated area. Because not all hair follicles are in a growing phase at the time of treatment, most patients need 4 to 8 sessions in any give area (usually spaced 6 weeks apart).

The number of sessions depends on hair colour and thickness, and body area being treated: arm and leg hair tend to be easier to remove, while facial hair can be more resistant. Men and women of all skin colours, except black, who have medium- to dark-coloured hair are good candidates. There is no effective laser technology for grey, white, blond or red hair
